FAQ: Living in Spain
What do you do on the first day?
As a new student, you are expected at the school at 8:00 AM. Then, if you are an absolute beginner, you will attend a welcome talk, a guided tour of the town and your first class. If you already know some Spanish, you will do your oral and written Spanish level tests before attending the guided tour of town and your first class.
Is the school closed on national holidays?
Yes. In cases where there are 2 holidays within the same week, one of the missed days´ classes will be made up. When there is only one holiday during the week, the day will not be made up. In the case of individual classes, class will always be made up throughout the week.
Spanish cities celebrate some local holidays, as well. To check for holidays during your preferred travel dates, visit the Price List page accessible from the main menu.
Will I have internet access at school?
Yes, at each don Quijote school there is a computer room open between 09:00 and 19:00 with free internet access. All of our don Quijote schools offer Wi-Fi, as well, for students who bring their own laptops along with them.
How can I receive letters/faxes during my stay at don Quijote?
You can receive letters/faxes at the school’s address/fax number. Just make sure the sender clearly writes your name both on the letter or fax.
What are the advantages of a don Quijote student card?
You get discounts in participating local shops, bookstores, restaurants and bars, gyms and cinemas, and also free entrance into some museums.
Does don Quijote offer excursions?
Yes, excursions are usually organised on weekends. They are always optional, and paid separately at the school. See the Activities page of our web, accessible from the main menu, for examples of excursions and activities at all of our schools.
Can I use my credit card everywhere in Spain?
You´ll be able to use it lots of places, and in most large stores and restaurants. In smaller cities, you´ll need to pay cash in smaller bars, restaurants and stores. With transportation, it’s common to pay in cash although you can usually pay with your card to buy transportation passes.
How much money do I need to bring with me?
This depends on the length of your stay, your lifestyle, the type of accommodation/board you´ve selected, and the don Quijote destination where you will be staying. A course counsellor may be able to answer specific questions, as may a good travel guide to the city you´ll be visiting.
